She used to hunt monsters.

Now she’s married to one. Wren thought surviving demons, betrayal, and a forced marriage to Xavier Malus would be the hardest part. She was wrong.

As violence spreads across the city, the fragile peace between humans, vampires, and werewolves begins to fracture. Someone is pulling the strings—and the deeper Wren digs, the more she realizes the real enemy isn’t just monsters… it’s the system that created them.

At the center of it all is Xavier—powerful, ruthless, and the one man she should fear… but can’t stop loving.

When a trap is set that targets her family, Wren is forced into an impossible protect the people she loves, or risk everything to stop a war that could destroy them all.

Because this time, love might not be enough to save her

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter

One

The ground beneath us trembles and another crack breaks out along the floor of the warehouse. Black smoke billows out of the cement, and the smell of fire and brimstone chokes us. The sound of chains being dragged across stone reverberates off everything in the building, rattling the boxes stacked nearby. Xavier holds me closer against his chest and takes a step back.

This can’t be happening. But it is. My blood was the final key to unlocking a portal to hell.

“Toni,” I say weakly, fighting against the drugs Marco injected into my neck. Physically, I want to relent and allow my eyes to close. It takes everything inside me to resist it and I blink several times, looking around as my vision starts to blur. Red hellfire burns before us, flames rising from the crack in the middle of the sigil.

The prophecy. It’s true.

Marcus Henry’s words echo in my head. This was the plan all along. Use me—and my blood—to open a gate to hell and let out a demon. Why? I have no fucking idea and right now isn’t the time to try and figure it out. Right now, we need to leave.

But I can’t...not without Gia and Toni.

“Uh, Wren,” Zeke starts, looking from me to the sigil. “I’m guessing it’s too late to stop whatever this is.”

“Yeah,” I say weakly, and push against Xavier, wanting to get to my feet. He just holds me tighter against himself. “They used me…they used my blood. I’m…I’m the key.” I feel sick as the words tumble out of my mouth.

This was set up. Done on purpose. The Order of the Mystic Realm, an organization founded on protecting humanity from dark forces, summoned a demon to earth. It goes against everything they stand for, yet here we are, witnessing it happen.

I push against Xavier again, and this time he sets me down but keeps a steady hold of my waist. I feebly step forward, eyes narrowing as I look at Marco. He’s on the ground, kneeling with his hands on the floor just inches from the sigil. Reddish firelight flickers across his face and he stares down into the abyss with wide eyes.

“What did you do?” I say through gritted teeth. Marco looks up at me, blinking a few times.

“We did it,” he breathes, looking back into the fire. “We did it.” He jerks his head up, looking at Vivian, and a small smile plays on his face. “We brought forth—”

He’s cut off when the ground trembles again and the crack in the earth widens. My stomach twists and the feeling of impending doom pulls me down. Smoke rises around us, whirling up and making the smoke alarms go off.

“Toni,” I say as I look away. I only make it one step before Xavier catches my wrist.

“I’m sorry, Wren,” he says.

“No,” I tell him. “No.” I hold up my hand, not wanting to even let him finish. Toni will be okay. We’ll call an ambulance. They’ll give him blood. He’ll recover and be furious he was used as a pawn in this game and then we’ll find Gia and fix this whole thing like it never happened and we’ll talk about it over drinks and dinner. It will be okay. It has to be.

“I don’t hear a heartbeat anymore,” Xavier tells me gently, brows pinching together.

“What?” Vivian’s hand goes to her mouth and Marco scrambles to his feet. He reaches for her, irritably shaking his hand for her to take. Maybe it’s the drugs pumping through my system or maybe it’s the shock—probably both—but everything is happening in slow motion.

My vision blurs as I turn my head. There are several dead hunters on the ground around us, and the weight of demonic energy is getting heavier and heavier. Gia was here, in the building somewhere, and no one else has the same sense of urgency I do when it comes to finding her before some sort of monster crawls out of the portal or this place bursts into flames.

And Antonio is still lying on the floor right where I left him, with my jacket covering his face to protect him from the smoke. He’s not moving, and the pool of blood surrounding him is bigger than it was before. I squeeze my eyes shut.

He collects trash for a living.
Before sunrise, he’s collecting her.

Rook Slater is big, brutal, and permanently grumpy. By day, he’s a garbage man. By night, he plays hockey and keeps the world at arm’s length.

Until the fated mate bond strikes hard and fast. One look at Kylie Moon—right after his twenty-eighth birthday—and destiny snaps into place.

She’s his.

There’s just one problem.

Her blood is rare—coveted—and the monsters in the shadows want to claim her.
Evil. Elite. Powerful. These are the kind of men who stop at nothing to have what they want.

But Rook Slater doesn’t lose what’s his.
And he certainly doesn’t bend the knee.

He’s good at taking out the trash—and these monsters are next.

Once fate locks in, Rook won’t just fight for the woman he loves.
He’ll kidnap and kill for her

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Rook

She tries to scream.

I see it before I hear it—the sharp inhale, the panic flaring in her eyes as her mouth opens and nothing comes out. Her breath goes ragged, and she twists her arm violently in the fucking asshole’s grip.

But his hold tightens around her wrist. His mind—and those of the two suited gofers with him—is very much focused on getting Kylie into their Escalade that’s parked in her driveway. I shouldn’t be able to hear their thoughts, but I can. Because of her.

“Stop, Kylie,” he says, already annoyed. “We don’t have time for this.”

The sound of her name on his lips is the final line crossed. I’m out of the Suburban before Kane can even pull it to a stop and stride up her driveway.

“Take your hand off her.”

The man freezes. All three men do, in fact.

I’ve never seen these men. I don’t know them personally, but I know e-fucking-nough to know exactly who they work for and why they’re here.

“Rook Slater,” the one with eyes so light they look transparent says. “We heard some rumblings. Guess I shouldn’t be surprised to see you here.” A faint smile tugs at his mouth. He’s enjoying this. I will fucking kill him.

“This doesn’t involve you,” the man holding Kylie’s arm spits.

“Yeah,” I say evenly. “It does. Because it involves her.”

“She’s coming with us.”

“No. She’s fucking not.” It’s all I say before I make my move. One second, my hand is empty, and the next, I’m behind him, dragging him back by his neck.

She is mine, motherfucker. And no one touches what’s mine.

His grip on Kylie breaks, and my forearm locks around his throat.

And I don’t hesitate then; I yank. Hard.

There’s a sharp crack beneath my arm, and a wet, choking sound leaves his throat. His body jerks once, then goes slack. I hold him there a second longer, just to be sure.

Then I drop his lifeless body to the ground.

Kylie stumbles back, freed from his hold, and shock steals the strength from her legs.

The one with the creepy transparent eyes lunges, but Kane hits him mid-step—muscle crushing bone and the impact sharp enough to echo off the house. The man collapses in a heap, and Calloway has the third man pinned against the Escalade and is landing punch after punch to his face before the man can even register the instinct to fight back.

It’s fucking vicious and violent, but it’s necessary. And at lightning-quick speed, the speed only men like us can utilize, we ensure all three of these motherfuckers won’t be opening their eyes again.

I turn to Kylie. Her wild and terrified gaze finds mine.

“Kylie,” I say as calmly as I can. “We have to go.”

She shakes her head, her body frozen. “What—”

“Now,” I snap, urgency breaking through. “We have to go now.”

She doesn’t move. At this point, I know there won’t be any talking her down or convincing her with words. I can tell by the stiffness in her posture and the rod in her spine and the panic-shakes of her hands.

But we have to go. We have to get the fuck out of here.

I’m going to have to take her. Whether she wants to go or not.

I close the distance between us, and her feet retreat instinctively toward the garage. It breaks my heart to see her this scared, but I have to do what I have to do.

I’m sorry, Ky. Really, I am.

“Rook,” she pleads. “Please. Don’t.”

I step in, pin her arms to her sides, and lift her over my shoulder. She fights me—kicking, twisting, screaming—but I don’t slow down.

“Rook, no!” she gasps. “Put me down!”

I don’t.

Her heart beats faster as my brothers and I take her toward the Suburban with haste.

She screams and fights and cries, and I grind my jaw against the discomfort without slowing my stride.

In this moment, she believes she’ll die at my hands if she doesn’t escape.

What she doesn’t know is how much she’ll suffer under theirs if she does.

Kylie

Wham.

A face slams against the plexiglass before sliding down dramatically, and the brute who sent the poor soul into it skates away while chuckling to his teammates.

He’ll demolish what stands in the way of her.
Even if it’s an empire.
Calloway Slater is quiet, methodical, and the kind of man who makes his living tearing things apart with steady hands and zero hesitation.
But in the last two weeks, things have taken a dramatic shift.
His brothers are mated.
The Elite Council of Vampires wants them dead.
And their uncle is playing a dangerous game Cal doesn’t trust.
Now, because of an ultimatum, he’s standing at the auction—as a participant.
As vampires gather and naïve human women swoon, Cal races the clock to bring the whole thing down before it’s too late.
But when he meets the eyes of beautiful Romy Spencer in the middle of it all, the bond detonates.
Suddenly, this isn’t about survival.
It’s about her.
And if saving Romy means reducing the elite empire to rubble—or getting killed in the process—so be it.
Because once destiny ignites, Calloway Slater doesn’t surrender.
He destroys.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Calloway

My presence in this room alone makes me feel complicit in an act so evil, it should earn a one-way ticket straight to hell.

A man I barely know sits beside me, watching from the corner of his eye as women are paraded across the room like products in a commercial.

It doesn’t matter that this stranger calls himself my uncle.

It doesn’t matter that his bringing me here may have saved my life.

What matters is the demeaning, objectifying, downright degrading scene that plays out in front of me.

Woman after woman in skimpy lingerie is brought through a door and guided onto a raised platform in the center. White numbers sit in front of them like lots in an estate sale.

Some smile and strut, while others do their best to maintain their composure under the bright, blinding lights.

I sit behind a one-way mirror alongside one hundred other male vampires waiting to place a bid on the woman of their choosing via an iPad system designed to maintain fairness and “order.”

My skin crawls with discomfort and disgust, but to these men, this is normal.

Though, the real match strikes when she completes the line, stepping up to the left side of the platform and squinting into the light.

Auburn hair, black lingerie, and sweet cerulean eyes form a picture built for illicit temptation, met with the men’s cruel indifference to the fear trembling through her body.

And when I see her hands shake, a silent scream begs for freedom from my throat.

She’s not the only reason I’m doing this—far from it.

This is a moral imperative. A change to the way my fellow vampires live and the special relationship we have with humans. This is a reckoning for the good of the world and for the safety of women who’ve been used for years.

This is justice.

This is a revolution.

But she—Romy Spencer—makes it personal.

When I’m done with this place, every one of these monsters will beg for mercy while my brothers and I make sure they burn—no matter what it costs us.

Romy

The dullness of distraction grays my normally cerulean eyes in the big mirror of the Neiman Marcus bathroom as I wash my hands.

Outside the door, my mother waits impatiently to shop for my funeral.

“Romy! Hurry up,” she commands, peeking her head in.

“Okay,” I agree complacently before mumbling my dissent under my breath. “It’s not like it’s a normal bodily function to have to pee or anything.”

Or like it’s not outrageous that we’re celebrating this shit anyway.

It’s not that I’m afraid to stand up for myself—it’s that I’ve been trying that to no avail for far too many years. Truly a futile endeavor at this point.

Snatching two paper towels from the holder and drying my hands, I sidle out of the bathroom with dread.

Of course, my mother has my elbow in hand before the door closes behind us, and we’re on the move again.

We’re closing in on hour three of shopping, and as of yet, she’s not happy with anything. It’s too modest. Too slutty. Too polyester, too pink, too blue, too fricking human.

I tried reminding her that’s what we are, but she wasn’t thrilled with that brush with reality. For her, being called to this assignment is as close as you can get to nobility, and that requires a royal outfit befitting Princess Kate.

“You leave for New York tonight,” she blathers, working herself into a fluster all over again with clout-chasing excitement. “If we don’t find something here, I don’t know what we’ll do.”

“Hey, I know!” I snap excitedly. “I’ll just skip it. I’m too young to die anyway.”

“Romy Spencer, stop it right now,” she barks. “Stop complaining about this privilege and belittling the process that’s been very important to our family for generations. And for the love of God, stop referring to it as your funeral. You’re on my last nerve with that one.” She lets out a long sigh. “Let’s not forget that, despite my better judgment, I let you skip the Choosing Mixer.”
She was never theirs to claim. She’s his.
And the repo man is here to collect.
Kane Slater is a blue-collar vampire with a killer smile, easy wit, and just enough charm to make you forget how dangerous he can be. But charm doesn’t buy entry into the elite’s masked gala— in fact, they think he’s better off dead.
But with his brothers’ lives on the line, he sneaks inside anyway—and finds his fated mate on display.
Her blood, valuable. Her future, sold.
Unfortunately for him, Blair Windsor’s been raised to believe that the vampire elite’s auction is a glittering fairy tale.
Kane knows better.
If Blair goes to auction, the life she’s dreamed of will be replaced by a nightmare.
So he does what he does best.
He reclaims what was never rightfully theirs.
Starting with her

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Blair

The vampire with the green eyes is the handsomest one.

Obviously. Duh.

He’s not the tallest one in my new doll set—that one has dark hair and a scar painted across his cheek like he’s a scary fighter or something—but he’s the one I like best. His hair is a soft yellowish color, and his eyes are a funny kind of green that look kind of purple if you tilt him just right.

I like to tilt him a lot.

I am nine years old today, which means I’m officially old enough to stay up later than my little sister Bonnie and pick my own cake. I like strawberry with vanilla buttercream. It’s the best cake in the whole wide world.

Mommy and Daddy gave me this doll set during my birthday party this afternoon. It was a big party—more big than last year—with lots of my mommy and daddy’s friends. And very important people too. At least, that’s what my mommy told me. She said some of Daddy’s important businesspeople came to celebrate with me because I’m such a special girl.

And I like when Daddy’s important people come because they always bring the biggest, most fancy gifts.

I wore a pretty pink dress and white shiny shoes. My mommy said my dress costed a lot of moneys and that she got it at a really fancy store. I think it’s called Channel? I don’t know, but it’s my mommy’s favorite store.

Anyway, my party was huge, and I got to open so many gifts.

My daddy is an important businessman. I don’t know what his business is, but my mommy says it’s very important. My mommy doesn’t have a job, but she’s too busy to have a job. That’s why me and my baby sister Bonnie spend so much time with our nanny Celeste.

My nanny Celeste is the best. She’s—

I hear footsteps near my door.

Oh no! I’m supposed to be asleep!

I dive under my blankets and pretend I’m sleeping.

And I wait and wait and wait there under my blankets until my warm breath starts to make me all itchy and sweaty.

But when Mommy or Daddy or Nanny Celeste doesn’t knock on my door, I push my blankets off my face and let out a big, deep breath. Holy moly, it was getting hot under there.

I turn on my night-light by my bed and sit up again.

And I line my vampire dolls back up so I can look at them all.

Yep. The vampire doll with the green eyes is definitely the most handsome.

He’s my favorite.

I pick him up and hold him in my right hand, and then I pick up the human girl doll with “Blair” embroidered on the dress in pretty pink letters with my left. Blair is my name, and this doll is supposed to be me. My Blair doll’s dress is white but also kind of yellowish. I think my mommy calls the color creamy.

It reminds me of a dress Mommy keeps in her closet in a big box with tissue paper all around it. It’s the dress she wore when she married Daddy.

I press the doll’s faces close together. “You’ve been chosen,” I say in my deepest, most serious voice, making the vampire doll talk.

The Blair doll gasps. I make her gasp. “Chosen?” I make her whisper.

“Yes,” I answer for him. “Your mommy and daddy said you’re a special girl.”

“Why am I special?”

“Because of your blood.”

My mommy told me that I’m getting old enough now to learn more big-girl things, and that was one of the things she told me when she was talking to me about secret stuff I’m not supposed to talk about.

But I have blood inside my body. Every human does. But my blood is good blood. Vampires like my blood a lot. It makes me special.

Mommy says they found out about my blood when I was a baby. And some of my daddy’s most important friends know about it too.

Good blood is a very special gift, my mommy says.

My daddy and my mommy aren’t vampires. They’re humans like me. But my mommy says that I am so special because of my special blood that I will be chosen by one of the most important, strongest, most special vampire boys when I’m a grown-up girl.
Starting with her

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

1

…I have no plans to kill you. Not today.

—Archangel Raphael to Guild Hunter Elena Deveraux (Once, on a Tower roof)

A thousand years old.

Elena’s brain struggled to comprehend the enormity of that truth, a truth writ large in the city that sprawled in front of her. Her vantage point on the railingless balcony outside her and Raphael’s Tower suite gave her a bird’s-eye view of a Manhattan that had altered dramatically since the day she’d first walked into a meeting with an archangel…and into her destiny.

The waters of the Atlantic had surged quietly into the landscape in the three centuries since Illium’s ascension, nibbling away the coastal border until part of the city was now waterborne, buildings and parks floating gently on oceanic waves.

Unlike the airborne habitats, which anchored to the earth only in emergencies, the water habitats were permanently anchored and connected to solid ground, bridge after bridge arcing over blue-green water and into Manhattan proper.

That had always felt right to Elena—her home had, from the beginning, been a land of bridges and water, though the Hudson and the East River slumbered sleepily these days after having settled into their new pathways four hundred years earlier. Their waters ran clearer than they had in her mortal years, and today, the sun turned the Hudson into a sheet of sparks that almost hurt the eye.

The metal and glass and soaring skyscrapers so iconic of New York during her mortal lifespan still existed, but where roads had once cut the city into neat grids, there were now thick corridors of living green that served that function.

That green heart hadn’t impacted only the roads—the biotech born partially of the Legion’s enduring legacy had speared outward until New York’s skyscrapers rose half-organic from the earth. Even the Tower was part organic, its external walls a gleam of midnight blue-black.

Anytime she placed a palm on that living “metal,” the area around her hand turned a searing blue so distinctive, it needed no name to identify it. Hbeebti, it seemed to say. Hunter-mine.

The Tower reacted that way to no one else…but then, it was Raphael’s blood that had provided the blueprint for the Tower’s organic skin. In battle, the Tower was now an extension of its archangel, a repository of violent power that sang with his name.

Glimpses of yellow through the canopies of the massive trees that lined Manhattan’s streets and avenues.

Elena smiled, the ache in her heart a fraction less painful. Because the yellow cabs had soldiered on through war and change and multiple transformations of the world and of technology.

Like all vehicles in New York these days, they didn’t need roads except as designated pathways along which to quietly purr. Their passage was so gentle that they did no damage to the greenery over which they hummed—but the drivers continued to honk and shake their fists at others they thought were dawdling.

Because the drivers had also come through time and change and the failure of pure self-driving tech. The latter had never totally recovered from the incidents where vehicles had stopped for frothing-at-the-mouth vampire “pedestrians”—thus serving up their passengers as a gruesome smorgasbord.

To the left of the last cab, a private vehicle pulled to a stop on the “third deck” of the street, the final level assigned for air-parking. Elena’s eyesight had become increasingly sharper with each new century of immortality, edging ever closer to the vision of a raptor, so she had no trouble seeing details even from this distance.

The black-clad woman who stepped out of the car and onto a small gravity float that carried her to the ground before the float retreated to the vehicle had hair a familiar sheet of glossy ebony—in which fluttered a colorful array of the tiny mechanical birds that were in style this decade.

Holly, off to look in on the design studio she’d founded three centuries earlier—the same studio that had set the trend for mechanical hair accessories. Each piece was designed according to the aesthetics of the early twentieth century in a seamless melding of the past and present. Holly had not only come up with the initial concept, she’d also taken it into immortal clubs and ballrooms.
I’M THE WOLF BORN TO DESTROY HER PACK.
I’ve spent years building toward one goal—bringing down the pack that brainwashed my mother and ordered me dead. It’s my sole focus and I don’t get distracted.

Not when I have dreams of a woman with hair like starlight. Not when I discover she’s an Adalwulf who serves as pack Seeress, my sworn enemy.
Not until I’m alone in an elevator with her and she collapses against me, shaking with a vision only she can see. I wrap my arms around her and hold her through it. Give her a few moments of comfort and disappear before her guards ever see my face.

I should forget her. Instead, I hunt her.
When I learn the Adalwulfs have locked her in a tower—their own seeress, caged like a weapon they can’t control—I turn feral.
Her pack will call it war. She’ll call it kidnapping. My wolf calls it destiny.
Aster is mine.

Big Bad Betrayal is a stand-alone book in the Werewolves of Wall Street series. This enemies to lovers, rival packs inclusivity romance features a Deaf wolf shifter and his psychic fated mate. No cliffhanger, HEA guaranteed

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Aster, 12 Years Old

Oma thinks I'm asleep, which is the only reason I hear her order a child’s murder.

As a seeress for the Adalwulf pack, I’m called to use my power for the good of the pack. But on this cold, dark night, I wish I could live as a normal girl. Then I wouldn’t be overhearing Oma, the seeress, plot with the high priest of the Moonborn, the Warden.

I’m curled up in an overstuffed armchair in her quarters, where I’d passed out with an aching head after she put me through a grueling afternoon and evening of training. I woke when the Warden entered, my body coming alert, wary in the presence of a predator, but pretended to be asleep, remaining still and keeping my breath slow.

I work hard to make myself invisible here in the Adalwulf castle. It helps me avoid verbal or physical abuse at the hands of Odin or Aiden. They hate anything they can’t control–and no one can control the Sight. Deep down, they fear and resent our witch-muddied bloodline, even though Oma and I are prized possessions as their pack’s veilwalkers–the Seeresses who can see beyond the veils of reality into the future.

“I had a vision,” Oma tells the Warden.

I can’t see him, but I can sense his aura. It’s grey and thick and oily like putrid smoke. In man form, he’s big and burly, a brutal enforcer. He’s always in war paint–his ice-blue eyes framed in a band of black. It’s supposed to evoke his wolf’s distinct markings. I think he looks like a raccoon. His long, white-blond hair worn with a drastic side-part, makes him look like a mad wizard. Right now, he’s probably taking Oma’s measure. Normally, she would offer her visions up directly to Odin, so the fact that she called the Warden in here and is speaking to him in hushed tones means there’s subterfuge going on.

My skin prickles with warning. Knowledge is power, and secrets are the most powerful of all. I learned that early in my seeress training.

“You need to kill the wolf without ears,” Oma murmurs.

“What did you see?” The Warden’s voice always sounds harsh. Cold and hungry for violence, never sated.

“It is not for you to interpret the visions,” Oma says in the authoritative voice she uses when working with the big egos of dangerous wolves. “I am the Seeress.”

“And I don’t take orders from you.” His voice is as cold as his eyes, and I have to stop myself from reflexively curling into a tighter ball.

I hear Oma pace around the small antechamber to her bedroom. Unlike the wolves who prowl this mansion, her movements are loud and uneven. We’re in the medieval stone behemoth built in the crook of the Adalwulf pack’s pine forest, nestled at the foot of a mountain beside a crystalline lake. There’s electricity and hot water, but Oma insists on living in the dark ages, lighting candles and using the fire for heat. She says fire contains magic, so we must keep it close.

I hear the sound of Oma’s teapot boiling, and she pours two cups of tea. The scent of lavender and lemon balm nips at my nose. She’s stalling. She always pours tea when she’s debating her next course of action.

Oma’s ancient–she won’t tell me exactly how old, but I think it’s over one hundred. She and Odin, the alpha of the Adalwulf pack, are magically bound by a powerful spell. Oma draws power from Odin’s body, giving her an unnaturally long life. By sharing in his alpha magic, all of her visions are of and for the pack’s well-being. She siphons some of his alpha power, as she did from his father before him. He will be the last alpha she serves, though. When he dies, so will she.

Which one will be your ultimate alpha wolf shifter book boyfriend?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

PROLOGUE

VIVICA YOUNG

My sister Erica answers my call on the second ring.

“Hey, Vivi,” she greets sunnily.

It’s still so, so good to hear this joy in her voice after all she’s been through. Riley is my only brother-in-law so far, but even if he were one of four, I’m pretty sure he’d be my favorite for the miracle worker he is.

“Hey back. So! Coven business and also pack business. Jason Creed. Bailey Blackwood.” I pause for effect, then add, “It’s time. Not getting detailed clarity but what I am getting… we need to seek a way to get her to follow Jase out of town.”

There’s a beat of silence before my sister exclaims, “What?”

“Jason Creed and Bailey Blackwood. It’s–”

“Uh oh. Oh shit! Do you think Jase might be in danger?” she exclaims. “Do you think it has something to do with the Starling artifacts?”

I can’t help but laugh at how animated she’s being. I’d say Bailey Blackwood is in earshot, and this is Erica deciding action – it’s go time!

“I’ll call Dani now,” I tell her. “Get her to take a back seat so Bailey can step in. Safely. Yeah?”

“I mean, can’t we do something?” Erica sounds incensed.

We’ve already talked a little about this. Me, Ronnie, and Jess are trying to avoid getting too emotionally attached to this situation, though it’s not so easy after having spent some time with these folks. And Erica is absolutely invested, which my intuition is telling me could be problematic. She adores Bailey and told me she wanted to intervene days ago, but I asked her to wait until more was revealed to me, so she has managed to hold her urges in check. Most surprising is how invested Dani is, which is unusual for her as she’s probably the most pragmatic of the five of us.

This wolf shifter is hot and he knows it. And on Erica’s birthday, Dani let him charm her a little and when Erica stuck her oar in to put a stop to whatever was brewing between them for Bailey’s sake, I told Dani what I knew, what I hadn’t officially admitted to Erica until yesterday when I told her how to pack what we were sending with Jase. I told her I know Bailey is Jase’s fated mate. But Erica said she’d already guessed the minute she saw them in the same space.

Dani and Jase were just about to lock lips when Erica’s text stopped her and Dani is relieved about that, never ever wanting to be that girl in the way of or causing drama when there’s a serious bond.

“I definitely know how important – how critical – that he gets those artifacts there safely,” she replies. “And then gets home safely, too. What are we gonna do?”

I say, “We could use your help mapping out of some problems associated with all this. Can you come here or should we come there?”

“I’ll run coming to Marblehead past Riley. We’ve been talking about it and now might be the best time to do it,” Erica replies.

“He can’t catch wind of all this, or he’ll likely try to get involved.”

“You think I don’t know that?”

“No,” I say carefully, “but that’s blaring in my mind right now so it’s obviously a warning to us.”

Now is the best time for Riley to leave his village while there’s a short reprieve between Arcana Falls council alpha claimings. Though I’m not sure it can be called a reprieve since I’m fairly sure the time for Jason and Bailey will descend while they’re overseas. Though I also know some unknown things will get in the way and strangely I know one of those things is us. This time around, we’re going to have to react on the fly, unfortunately.
🥵 🌶️Spice

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

1

Iris

Iris broke the surface with a flick of her pearlescent green tail, sending droplets scattering like diamonds in the morning light. Humming softly, she pulled herself up onto her favorite sun-warmed rock, arching into a lazy stretch that set water rolling down her arms, the salt water glistening on her skin.

Was there anything better than a refreshing swim in the summer sea? Perfect temperature. Perfect lighting. Zero responsibilities.

She reached back to wring the water from her hair and felt something crinkly in the strands. Not seaweed—unless seaweed had started using packaging.

With a sigh, she pulled out a plastic wrapper, the logo faded to oblivion by sun and salt.

“Seriously?” she muttered, crumpling it up. She reached back into her hair, this time encountering a length of broken fishing line. Once again.

“Oh, come on.” She carefully untangled it from her pink waves with the patience of someone who had done so way too many times, then folded it up with the wrapper like she was collecting ocean-trash trading cards.

For the life of her, she couldn’t understand why it was so hard for trash to make its way into a garbage can.

Humans.

Flopping back, Iris closed her eyes and tried to forget the trash as the sun dried the water on her skin.

There was a flutter above her, interrupting her perfect solitude. Sure, it could be a random gull. But nope. She didn’t even have to open her eyes to know who it was.

Montague Featherington.

Monty, for short. Drama, for long.

Iris had named him herself when she’d been eight and going through her ‘everyone deserves a ridiculously formal title’ phase. Right before she’d stolen an enchanted pearl—that she totally wasn’t supposed to take—that, when gifted to the pelican, granted him the ability to speak.

He had been loving the sound of his own voice ever since.

“Hey, Monty,” she said, shading her eyes with one hand. “How are you doing?”

“How am I doing?” he repeated, already winding up. “Emotionally adrift. Spiritually soggy. And some thieving seagull stole my favorite thinking rock. What does he have to contemplate? Which human he’s going to mug today? The gulls have no interiority. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.” He nodded his giant beak for emphasis. “But I am hanging on by a feather. And sheer spite. Allow me a melodramatic sigh.”

Iris smiled. “You can borrow this rock if you promise not to monologue at it.”

“Tempting, but I prefer the acoustics by the cliff. Better echo.” He ruffled his feathers. “Shouldn’t you be with Her Majesty?”

“My mother?” Iris blinked. “Why?”

“Because, dearest sea spawn, you mentioned a super important meeting last week. With capital letters and everything.”

“That’s today?” Iris yelped, the edge of her tail slapping the water and sending droplets flying.

“According to my internal calendar and innate sense of dramatic timing—yes. And you’re thirty-two minutes late. Not that anyone’s counting. Except me. And your mother.”

“For Triton’s sake!” Iris yelped, vanishing beneath the waves like a startled fish and launching into a desperate, splashy sprint.

Her mother, Tatiana, was a lot of things: powerful, elegant, and entirely over Iris’s shenanigans. Being late to a meeting she’d had a week’s warning about was just another notch against her.

If she was lucky she would be sentenced to eel duty again. The royal singing eels were a barbershop trio who couldn’t harmonize to save their slimy lives and never, ever slept.

If she wasn’t lucky, she’d be forced to massage the crabs at the royal spa. And they were entitled and pinchy.

By the time Iris reached the seafloor, her stomach was in knots as she pictured her mother seated on her seashell throne, tapping her fingernails against her arm in irritation.

“Hey, Carl,” she called to the palace gate guard, who pulled open the massive whale-boned gates with the weary look of a merman who’d seen too many late princesses in his time. “Don’t say it,” she added.

Carl said nothing. His eyebrow, however, spoke volumes.

She shot past the palace’s lush kelp gardens, where electric-blue gobies darted between fronds, blissfully unaware that they were being watched by snarly kelp dragonettes.
Twenty years after Earth’s total destruction, a group of human women are struggling to survive on their failing space station. Their only hope is being rescued by the Venkorians, but at what price…

At first Isla ignores the echo of her name coming through the com system. She won’t go. They can’t make her. But they can. And they do. Two giant Venkorian guards grab her by the arms and carry her away from the home she’s known for twenty years. The space station is her safe place.

Lasim has no idea what he’s purchased. A pet, yes. But this pet is far more intelligent than he expected. Even after he subdues her for several days, she’s still feisty. They’re drawn to each other, though. It’s fated. And Lasim will stop at nothing to protect his Little pet from danger. She’s his whole world.

Only travel to Venkoria if you’re prepared to embark on a journey of deeply intimate relationships between demanding Daddy Doms and the humans they are destined to command

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

PROLOGUE

All the blood drains from my face when I hear my name being called over the intercom. It’s blasting through the entire space station, so everyone knows I’m being summoned.

This can’t be happening. I refuse to acknowledge it’s real. I choose to ignore the request and stay focused on my job. It’s the only way to preserve my sanity.

I’m important around here. Granted, everyone is important. We all have jobs to do. Assignments. Responsibilities. No one can be lazy on a space station.

But I’m more essential than some of the others. I’m one of the oldest, which means I’ve held more responsibility than the majority of the inhabitants for twenty years.

I purse my lips and keep digging up potatoes one at a time as my name blasts through the intercom again. Two women are working with me in the agricultural wing, and they’ve both stopped to lean back on their knees and look at me.

“Isla?” Zoey whispers.

I ignore her. She’s a good friend, but I refuse to accept my fate. I won’t be dragged from my home by giant aliens. I’m in denial. They will have to take me kicking and screaming.

Our space station is failing. Our days are numbered. We’re running out of resources. We can’t continue on this current trajectory. Soon, we will be out of food and other supplies necessary to survive.

I should consider us lucky that we were discovered by an alien vessel that happened to spot us on their radar. They attached to our space station a few weeks ago and took two of our women, Luna and Adryn. None of us has a clue what their fate was. Where were they taken? Are they still alive? For all I know, they could have been boiled alive and served for dinner.

I’m not interested in finding out what happened to them. It’s too scary.

Since the day our station was boarded by several giant alien men, two of their guards have remained. They spend their days wandering around the station, watching us. A lot of the time, they’re scowling.

The sounds that come out of their mouths are unintelligible, though it doesn’t have to be that way. They obviously have advanced technology because they gave Headmistress Helena an earpiece that translates for her.

Why must the rest of us remain ignorant of their intentions?

To be fair, I’m pretty certain the headmistress is unaware of the plans these aliens have for us. They only communicate with her when necessary. She says she doesn’t know much, but she insists we must leave this space station and take our chances with the aliens. We have no other option. Anyone who doesn’t escape this station will eventually die of starvation.

There’s no reason to be dramatic. We still have some time, but we’ve known for years that the amount of food we’re capable of producing is not sufficient to maintain our lives in the long run.

We must take our chances and leave this station. It’s our only hope for survival. But I don’t want to be the third person chosen. I don’t want to be chosen at all. There’s no reason every single one of us must go to their planet.

I’m kidding myself. There are multiple reasons why we’re running out of time. Insufficient potatoes are not going to be the cause of our demise.

“Isla. Report to the medical bay immediately.” The booming voice belongs to Headmistress Helena. Her tone indicates she’s losing her patience. Or perhaps someone is holding a knife to her throat. How would I know?

“Isla…” Zoey hisses, leaning toward me.

I sit back on my heels and close my eyes, cringing as a door behind me opens, banging into the wall. Heavy footsteps that can only belong to the alien guards echo loudly in the room.

Holding my breath, I will them to leave me alone. Of all the people on this space station, why am I the third person to be summoned?
