“How so?”
Hunter’s expression is one of self-loathing and disgust.

I stare at him, my mouth dropping open. This time, I push hard against those broad shoulders, forcing him to pull out. Hunter shakes his head remorsefully.
“They are not.”
“They’re plain sugar.”
“Yes,” he affirms in a low voice. “I’m so sorry, Nova. I know I’m a fucking mass of contradictions. I do want you to get pregnant, but only by me. I don’t want you to see other men. I compared you to your mother.”
“And you lied to me!” I scream, uncaring that I’m probably blowing out his eardrums. “On a really important thing! What if I slept with another man? What if he got me pregnant?”
Hunter shoots a sharp look at me, that blue gaze penetrating.
“That’s why I kept busting up your dates, sweetheart,” he says in a low voice. “I knew that you weren’t protected, even if you thought you were. I didn’t want something to go awry, and I sure as hell didn’t want some lame teenage boy putting his sperm in you, so I crashed your dates. I’m sorry, Nova,” he says, his deep voice cracking and eyes intense. “But I’m not sorry at the same time. You belong to me, and the only man to put a baby in you is going to be me.”
I swallow the lump in my throat while trying to get things straight because the confusion is so immense that tears are prickling my eyes again.
“So you could have put a baby in me just now. We just made love, and it was unprotected.”
“It was unprotected,” the alpha male affirms, taking in my big breasts, heaving flanks, and swollen, still-wet pussy. “And I love the thought that you might be pregnant with my child right now. I know it’s scary, but—”
“But you didn’t check with me first!” I scream. “What the hell? How could you betray me like this?”

“You bet you fucked up,” I say in a fierce voice while pushing the huge man off of me. I’m trembling with outrage, hurt, and shame. How could Hunter have lied to me about contraception? The betrayal stings, and my heart literally hurts with the knowledge. Then, without another word, I grab my clothes and run up the stairs to my bedroom before slamming the door.
Once alone, tears burst from my eyes as I sit on my narrow twin bed. What the hell just happened? I gifted my cherry to the man I love, and yet Hunter betrayed me! He could have gotten me pregnant without my consent just now! I could have slept with Stan or David, and they could have gotten me pregnant by accident! How can I live with Hunter’s betrayal ... and what if I still want him, despite his misdeeds?
