Not only do her knuckles move against mine, but her knee grazes mine, and I almost stop her. But if I do, I know she’d open me up like a can of worms, and all my feelings would fall to our feet and wiggle around us, exposing me.

Ambrosia stops when she gets up, pulling at her skirt that has ridden up. If I weren’t reeling at having just spilled my soul to her, I’d check her out. But all I can do is look down at my coffee, my shoulders curling in. I take ahold of her wrist before she can walk away, and I feel her throwing daggers from her eyes. She pulls her arm from mine but doesn’t move when I speak in a very low voice. “Don’t tell anyone I told you that.”

“I’d never,” she admits. “Not that it matters since you’re going to stay away from me.”

When I look up, she’s gone.

I feel like utter shit.

But there is no way I can stay away from her.

Comment on The Rowe Report: Episode 1005: Breaking Away with the Andersons.

DoesMyBreathStink60: I think my favorite part of this was when Phillip got Reese the cake for her monthly visit. Good idea, noted for when Aunt Flo visits the girl I’m digging.

Comment on The Rowe Report: Episode 1002: Trying to Score with the Brookses.

DoesMyBreathStink60: I’m a dude, and even I can admit something got in my eye during the two of them recollecting kissing in the rain when they decided to get back together. Cue: Taylor Swift’s “Sparks Fly,” and no, I’m not ashamed of my love for T-Swizzle.

Comment on The Rowe Report: Episode 1009: Face-off with the Reeveses.

DoesMyBreathStink60: I didn’t think I’d be a fan of a second chance since I firmly believe you mess up, you shouldn’t get another opportunity, but in reality, these two should have never been apart. I’m not saying I’m glad her sister passed, but…damn. You can hear the honesty and love for Mekena in Markus’s voice. I think this may have been my favorite story.

Comment on The Rowe Report: Episode 1100: Staty Stats with Ro.

DoesMyBreathStink60: I’m curious to see if you’re right when preseason starts. With Phillipe Odder taking over goal, I feel the Assassins may dominate. I realize you are a long-time Florida fan, but you do realize you live in Tennessee. We are real proud of our teams around these parts. Either way, I enjoyed your stats and your theories. I’ve been bingeing your channel, and you’ve grown a lot. It’s impressive. You’re impressive.

Comment on The Rowe Report: Episode 1003: The Odderses’ Empty Net.

DoesMyBreathStink60: I lied. This was my favorite. Cupcakes, goalies, and he played piano for her through a wall. Damn. I need to step up my game. Plus, I know that Audrey’s cupcakes are the best in town, but do you like donuts? Five Daughters is a slice of heaven.

Comment on The Rowe Report: Episode 1001: Taking Shots with the Adlers.

DoesMyBreathStink60: Okay, the applause was top-notch, and I’ve always been an Elli Adler fan. But now, I may be in love. Sorry, Shea. Don’t kill me.

I’m not even done going through all the comments when my messaging app for fans to reach out about my podcast alerts me a new message has come through.

It’s DoesMyBreathStink60.

My newest and most vocal fan.

I ignore the swoop and the dip my gut does as I focus on the letters that form words.

DoesMyBreathStink60: Are you really Ambrosia Mercer or a bot?

Me: beeboop, bee, bop, boop, boop.

DoesMyBreathStink60: Ah. I knew it, a bot. Can you get your master?

Me: This is she.

DoesMyBreathStink60: Thank the force. Question, do you have a number one fan?

Me: Um, maybe not one fan, but a group of number ones. My tía would shank anyone who came close to her spot.

DoesMyBreathStink60: Okay, can they be your day ones and I be your number one fan?

I’m smiling, a big, toothy grin before I even finish their sentence. Being inside The Penalty Perk calms me, which is why I come here to work when I need to read. I don’t know if it’s the bustle of machines or the constant chatter, but it makes me focus on the way the letters make words. It’s weird how my brain functions, but here we are.

I do what works.

Me: I mean, there are requirements for my number one fan.

DoesMyBreathStink60: Hit me with them. I’m pretty sure I can check off each one.

Me: Well, you have to listen to all the episodes I’ve done.

DoesMyBreathStink60: Okay, I’ve got about nine more to get through. What else?

Me: I feel you’d need a shirt.

DoesMyBreathStink60: Duh, and a hat.

Me: Oh, absolutely a hat.

Me: Probably a bumper sticker or some kind of sticker on something important.

DoesMyBreathStink60: Would on my phone and laptop suffice?

Me: I feel so.

DoesMyBreathStink60: Cool. Where do I get said shirt, hat, and stickers?
