She turned and practically ran to her car. Starting it, she backed up, drove out of the alley, and turned onto Walnut Street.

My head dropped back against the headrest, and I slowly sighed. “Fuck, what in the hell did you do, Gavin?”

It had been over three weeks since I’d seen Brystol. Every night since I’d made her come on the counter of the toy store, I had dreams about her. Taking her bent over the counter. Taking her in her car. Taking her in my bed, her bed, at the lake on a blanket. I’d woken up each time with my hand on my dick and coming so fucking hard, I swore I saw stars with every damn orgasm.

I had also avoided Evelyn and Denny, not because I was ashamed of what I’d done, but for self-preservation. I never knew when Brystol might be with them, and I wasn’t ready to see her. Not after the way I’d treated her.

“What’s going on with you, Gavin?” Declan asked as we walked up Main Street. It wasn’t normal for us both to be off simultaneously, especially not on a busy night like Halloween. We didn’t typically work nights, but on a holiday like this, often one of the day-shift guys would be switched to second shift. This year it fell on Declan, who’d bribed James to take the shift. He didn’t ask me, since I’d covered nights for Rodney three weeks ago…the night I’d seen Brystol in her store.

“Nothing’s wrong, why?”

He shrugged. “You’ve just seemed distant lately. Like you’ve got something on your mind.”

I stopped walking, and when Declan did as well, I turned to him. “I did something.”

His brows raised. “Illegal?”

Frowning, I reared back. “Seriously? That’s where your mind went?”

Declan shrugged. “Well, with the way you’ve been acting, yeah.”

I glanced around and pulled him down the alley between Slice, Slice, Baby pizzeria and the Moose Village Hotel.

I ran my hand through my hair and sighed. “I was a real dick to Brystol.”

He laughed. “Compared to all the other times you’ve been a dick to her?”

I shook my head. “I did something I regret. Well, I don’t regret it; I just regret what I did after.”

The look on his face said he wasn’t sure he wanted to hear my confession. “Do I even want to know?”

“Probably not, but I’m telling you anyway.”

He groaned.

“Remember a few weeks back when I took the night shift?”

“Yeeeah,” he replied, dragging out the word.

“I saw the lights on in Memory Lane Toys, so I pulled over to check it out.”

“Oh God,” Declan said, as he scrubbed a hand down his face. “Nothing good is going to come out of this story.”

I hit his arm. “Just listen, will you?”

He motioned with his hand for me to go on.

“I saw Brystol inside with Lucas Miller.”

“The FBI agent watching over Cadie?”

“Yes.”

Confused, he asked, “Why wasn’t he with Cadie?”

“How the fuck would I know? The point is, he was kissing Brystol. Well, I think she might have actually kissed his cheek, but lips touched skin.”

His brows shot up.

“Right? So, I reached for the door, and it was unlocked…”

“And you walked away, right?”

“Hell no! I went in. He left, Brystol got pissed, and the next thing I know, she’s on the counter, and I’m…”

I lowered my voice and peeked around the corner to ensure no one was listening.

“Jesus, we’re not trading military secrets here,” Declan said, as he pulled me by my jacket back into the small alley.

“Fine. I sort of gave her oral.”

His eyes went wide as his mouth fell open. He quickly shut it and asked, “How do you sort of give someone oral sex?”

I rolled my eyes. “Fine, I made her come with my mouth, and then I…well…I…”

He leaned in closer. “You?”

Closing my eyes, I whispered, “I came as well, when she did.”

“No, you did not.”

I nodded. “I did. But you have no idea how long I’ve dreamed of touching Brystol Duggan.”

Declan started to laugh. “Dude, are you a fucking virgin?”

“No! I’m not a virgin, for fuck’s sake.”

“First time giving oral?”

I glared at him. “No, but it was Brystol. I’ve dreamed of this woman since I was in high school!”

“Okay, so you got embarrassed because of that—obviously. Did Brystol make fun of you or something?”

“No. She doesn’t even know I jizzed in my pants. I got the hell out of there.”

He pinched the bridge of his nose. “I feel like I’m missing something here, Gavin.”

“Stop interrupting me with your questions!”

Declan let out a long breath.

“Nothing like that has ever happened to me before, Declan. The way she makes me feel is…it’s fucking confusing. I want to hate her, but at the same time, I’m pretty sure I’m in love with her.”

“I get that. Not the hating part, but the being in love with someone from a distance. That still doesn’t explain your mood lately.”
