“Then what do you suggest?” Adam asks her, leaning forward to take my hand to calm me.

Because I am not calm.

“I want the wedding,” she admits shyly. “I want to stand before our families and friends and commit ourselves to each other, but the legal part of it doesn’t sit well.”

“But there are benefits to that,” I remind her. “Insurance and medical privileges.”

“Oh, so if I’m in the hospital, I’m supposed to be okay with only one of you being allowed in with me while the other worries himself into an early grave and harasses the staff?” She shakes her head. “I feel like there could be jealousies, even if we don’t mean to. Because I’ll be honest, if you two legally married, and I wasn’t in on that, I would throw a fit.”

“So what do I do with this ring?” Adam holds the engagement ring we bought her, and her whole face softens. “You don’t want it?”

“Fuck yes, I want it.”

Adam laughs and slides it on her finger. I lift it to my lips and kiss it.

“I also want you two to wear rings,” she says. “I want the ceremony, too. However, I don’t think we should file the paperwork legally. I don’t need it. Just please don’t make me be Alex Blackwell-Cavanaugh. That’s a mouthful.”

“I’ve got your mouthful.”

She snorts at that, and Adam shakes his head.

“I have an idea on the name thing,” Adam says. “I think that Alex and I should both legally change our names to Blackwell.”

My heart comes to a complete stop, and I stare at them both. They’re grinning at me.

“Why?”

“Because my parents were shit.” He shrugs and leans in to kiss my lips. “I want it to be your name that carries on, baby.”

“Adam, Alex, and Gabe Blackwell,” Alex says, still grinning. “It has a nice sound to it.”

“Fuck, I’d be honored to give you both my name.” I blink fast, ignoring the sting in my nose from the tears that want to come.

“Does this mean we’re planning a wedding?” Alex asks, practically bouncing up and down on the couch.

“Looks that way,” Adam says. He pulls us both to our feet, and we sandwich our girl between us. I lean in to kiss his lips, then press my lips to the top of Alex’s head.

“We’re getting married,” Alex murmurs. “Then you’ll really be stuck with me.”

“Haven’t you figured it out, Shorty? We never planned to let you go. You were always going to be ours.”

She sighs happily. “I can live with that.”
